Default Moderated post reply: can this be done?

As thing stand now with vb4.2, when a forum is set up so that all posts are moderated, if a moderator/admin replies to one of those posts, the reply is also moderated. That means you have to approve your own post, or approve the original post then reply to it.

Is there a way to make it so that the reply is not moderated?

If by post you mean thread, like a user post a new thread, and it is auto moderated, then no, there is no way to do that cause the reply the admin/mod gave is not the original post, and has no way to take over at the start of the thread.

Makes no sense to me. It is the moderator's job to moderate the post. If he does approve, he should do so first and then answer. If he does not approve and the post stays hidden, there's no point for the moderator to answer to it. What would people do with an answer to a post the can't even see? And how often would moderators by mistake quote something from the hidden post, making it public before the post is even visible?

Ok, here's the scenario: We're going to have an online political forum where a political candidate answers questions posed by the site members.

The admin will set up a forum and start a thread for this purpose. To keep hecklers and inappropriate posts from showing, all posts made will be moderated. The candidate will be made a moderator of this particular forum so that he can see all posts made, and choose which ones he wants to respond to. If he uses the "reply with quote" option, then the original question will be included with the reply.

It would be great if the candidate could control this process on his own without teaching him how to moderate posts. We expect a pretty good amount of traffic for this so cutting down on the moderation part would be helpful. So as it stands now, without having to teach the candidate how to moderate and to spend his valuable time moderating, we're going to have him respond and then an admin will approve every post the candidate makes.

If there's a better way to do this, I'm all ears, but this is the easiest way I saw of doing it.

Now, I see what you are after and it makes sense to me. However, I think you are looking at some custom code here to streamline the moderation process for your third-party moderator.

It doesn't seem to be that difficult in my head, but there is no simple option to do this in vbulletin except just making him a moderator for that forum.

Is this something you can tackle programming wise if given some advice or are you looking for paid help -- in which you should re-post in the paid/unpaid request forums.

It's not a real big deal because I know how to work around it, but I guess I was just looking to see if I had overlooked an easier solution.
