public/private forum for groups

Hi all,

This question may be a lack of understanding of the groups features of vb 4.2 but I thought you would be able to point me in the right direction.

I'm building a community to allow game clans and guilds to set their own space (private and/or public forums) where members of the groups can access their private forum to organize their activities.

The idea was to use the groups system and use this group to set-up the created forum permissions (automatically).

My question is, it this a way to use groups? Is there a mod already similar to what I am trying to do?
