Activation emails not being sent to new users
My second issue... I was waiting to get RSS resolved before I posted anything. This is a rather important issue and maybe has been answered before. Again, I am running 3.6.7 PL1 until we get the funds to upgrade. The site is not sending out activation emails. I look at all of the new registratants and they are all stuck in "Awaiting activation email" or something like this. I have to manually add them to the registered users group.
www.wyoming-rc.com/forums Thanks! |

Do you know if your site is sending out any email? If you haven't already, try going to Maintenance > Diagnostics > Email and test to see if your email settings are correct.

Yes, it is. I can send a message to my users without any trouble. I have had to do this in order to notify new users that they have been placed in the registered users group.

Have you modified the activition email at all? What is in your error_logs (if you don't know where they are, ask your host) when the email should be sent? Are the emails even created on your server? Do the mail logs say they are sent out?

If you are referring to the email title and email body under "send welcome email" in "user registration options," the answer is no. Send welcome email is set to Yes. Also, just to get this out of the way, I am using the forum to send email, so SMTP is disabled. No code has been modified on this forum. I just registered a new test user and that user did not receive an email. But... I can send emails via the "Send email to users" method. The email address to notify about new users is admin@wyoming-rc.com but has not been setup, so I do not get emails.
For obvious spam reasons (I guess you would already know this since I created this thread): Verify Email address in Registration If you set this option to 'Yes' new members will not be allowed to post messages until they visit a link that is sent to them in an email when they sign up. Set to YES. If a user's account is not activated by the user visiting the link, it will remain in the 'Users Awaiting Activation' usergroup. THAT'S THE PROBLEM! WHEW! |

In the Settings under "Error Handling & Logging", there's a setting to log emails to a file. If you can, set that to a file (in a writable directory) then check to see if anything is logged when you register a user.

For whatever reason I cannot get the log file to write to a directory. I have tried my images folder and even the admincp folder with permissions 7 7 7. Any other suggestions? Old would you like to take a look? I created four sample accounts this morning and no activation email sent. Kind of a big deal, it's killing my forum!

The owner on the folder is most likely the issue, which may be related to suphp if its on.
Create a new folder & chown it to username:nobody, see what you get, if ur on a ded/vps server. If you want ot find out the real reason your emails are failing, you need to look at the maillog/mail.log/exim_mainlog, depending on server. |

So... a little time has passed and I just attempted to send all of my registered users an email. The email failed and I got a database error. Thinking this might be part of the problem with activation emails not being sent. I have exhausted my ability to troubleshoot this issue. Anyone take $40 via paypal to fix this for me?

And the database error was???? And does your host allow you to send that many emails at a time?
If you wish to pay someone to fix this issue, you need to post in the Requests for Paid Services forum. |
