iWeb.com - WATCH OUT!!!
simple transaction...
Looking to upgrade one of my websites to a dedicated server. VPS just isn't keeping up anymore years of good reviews with iWeb.com, ok lets give them a go. My issue is after a lengthy chat setting up a server for my requirements at an agreeable cost and paying via paypal and approval via phone confirmation, all good to go right? WRONG... iWeb.com wanted a copy of my driver's license or passport (which in some states has SSN, and passport has SSN) AND a copy of a credit card.. a snap shot of the email I received is attached... REALLY? would you proceed with the request?? |

I didn't. I know better. But a heads up to others that use iWeb.com or have been thinking about it.
iWeb.com has been reported to the BBB and phishing watchdogs... |

i had to do this at my host, but i covered driver's license number, took a pic of ISP bill and gave them an old mobile number. they only want to see name and address together, photo and adress together, nothing else. they actually told me to hide numbers. fyi, iweb suck, they make you pay for every ticket support. i started getting invoices for crap i never even did. i could go on and on but i wont.

I have never had to do this with any host I have dealt with. All the info they need is verified through your email and billing address when you submit your cards info.
When ever I run into anyone that asks me for extra info like this I end it there. No reason for anyone to ask you for that extra information. --------------- Added [DATE]1348875204[/DATE] at [TIME]1348875204[/TIME] --------------- @ ShawneyJ - Nice looking site ShawneyJ, is it ok to sign up on your site and advertise my Video Game Clan and Website? I see you have a Online Games & Consoles forums and I just wanted to ask before I did so. |

Yes I've seen hosts ask for this- they only do it because they've been burned by scammers before and credit cards/paypal almost never find in their favor- they are just protecting themselves.
If you'd rather not jump through their hoops there are other hosts. |

It is normal if you are buying a dedicated server, especially from source ie the likes of superb.net, softlayer etc etc....however, I am sure iweb.com had to provide these information to their host and as such, they are responsible for what goes on with their server. They are also required to take these precaution and this way, if any untoward activity happens, they can provide the information they took from you.
That's how most reputable dedicated hosts work...however you should be able to blank out your SSN. |
