Username Check & Registration

I am attempting to integrate vBulletin registration into my shopping cart (obviously outside the vBulletin directory) for all new orders and am in need of a script that checks the db for current usernames and another that does the actual username registration. I would like this to be jQuery. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
