Database clean up after spam attack
Hi, I'm very green at VB, so please bear with me.
I got hammered with spam over the past few months when my forum sat pretty idle. I've since gone through the forum software to delete all of the users and posts and I've installed the spam-o-matic plugin, which seems to be helping a bit. My forum is currently inactive, so I deleted all users (except admin) and all the posts (all spam anyway). I'm getting ready to upgrade to 4.2 and they recommend a database backup first. So I went to backup the database and I noticed some tables are huge. Since my forum literally has zero posts in it and 1 user, I don't see why the db should be so big. It is not possible for me to drop the database and do a fresh reinstall because I have a single sign on plugin configured that was a nightmare and my developer who did it is unavailable. So my question, is it safe for me to delete the junk from the following very large tables? searchcore searchcore_text searchgroup searchgroup_text adminlog moderatorlog passwordhistory postlog These tables all appear to be the most heavily effected by the spam. The first handful of rows in some of them look reasonable and the dates confirm they were likely from the beginning stages of the install. After that it looks like garbage. Blow them away? Thanks in advance for any thoughts! |

I believe those can all be truncated without causing any problems.
