Default Vbulletin Image resizer not working properly

HI all

First I am not sure what image resizer my vb3.7.0 site is using, In ACP Image options it says GD but is that only for thumbnails?

I can't seem to find any other settings in ACP that control the image resize options for User Album Pictures and don't think it is a product installed (like TCattitude Image Resizer)

I have included a screenshot so hopefully someone can say which resizer this is

Anyway I have two problems at the moment

First Problem : The resizer does work but seems to give up on larger images

I tried resizing the same jpg image in Paintshop Pro and then attempted to upload it

The results I got was

1296 x 1944 336Kb jpeg uploaded and resized ok
1575 x 2362 415Kb jpeg uploaded and resized ok
1750 x 2624 522Kb jpeg failed
1944 x 2916 1.1mb jpeg failed

So somewhere between 415Kb and 522Kb it is giving up. When upload fails basically I don't get any error (unless there is one in a log somewhere that could shed some light on this problem) it just sits there for ages then says server failed to respond

I think gifs may have problems at different sizes but haven't thoroughly investigated this yet.

Is this a server issue or a vbulletin issue and how do I fix it?

I am not sure if we had this problem before I moved my site to a dedicated server last November. That may be a red herring.

Second Problem
: how do members upload photo's from iPhones? I have members with Android phones who can upload images OK but I need to get this working for other smartphones as so many people are using them nowadays

Cheers
Rich

bump

This is getting to be a bit of a pain - how do I get my members on iPhone able to upload photos to their albums?

In the Attachment Manager you can set a max width and height as well as max file size. I think it will attempt to resize so that the image stays within all (if an image of max width and height is still too big, it will reduce it). I don't know why it would fail, maybe it has to do with php max script time?

I don't know anything about the second question, sorry.

hi there kh99 old friend

Re the first problem (resizer) these are member album pics not forum post attachments but I'll have a look at the settings you recommend. I was never sure TBH if user albums is a vbulletin 3.7 feature or part of vbA CMPS which I also have installed

Regard the second proble (iPhone) I have done a little research now and found some libraries available in the public domain that may help with this.

The first problem is when a user tries to upload an image from iPhone, they go through the process Create Album, Upload pic... but when they get to the page with the Browse button (this usually would allow you to select a folder on your pc and the jpg or gif file you want) they are not able to choose any image file to upload. I will ask clarification from my members exactly what they mean by that.

Would I be better moving this Question to the VB3 programming forum? it looks like it is gonna get rather in-depth to solve

When you log into your Admin CP what is your reported PHP Maximum Upload Size?

Near the bottom of your config.php there is also a max resolution setting, check that.

In your Admin CP -> vbulletin options -> Image Settings what Image Processing Library are you using? Try changing it.

As for iphone uploads, VB 3.7 was released years before iphones existed, not sure there is a solution.

Thanks BoP

upload_max_filesaze was 40Mb (default setting for my dedicated server) so that was more than enough

In config.php
$config['Misc']['maxwidth'] = 2592;
$config['Misc']['maxheight'] = 1944;

That is exactly in line with the limitation I was finding - I will change the settings and re test

Regards iPhones
Has someone already created a mod to fix this problem or do I need to do it myself? If so I will start a new thread for this in the more relevant Vb3 programming discussion forum

Cheers
