Change of URLs

Hi

I want to change the forum url. I want my forum url to be "forum.example.com". The forum is installed in"/forum" (www.example.com/forum) Do I need to have .htaccess file for this? If so what should be in there? Also I do not want the ".forum.php" to show.

I assume the same method applies to the cms folder.
