Very Large Forum 3.8.7 -> 4.1.10?
If you've upgraded a very large forum from 3.8.x to 4.1.x I would like to talk with you. Please PM me.
Thanks, Chuck |

Chuck, think about it - what is the compelling reason to "upgrade" to v4?

Max, I hear you and other than the things you and I already discussed, there really aren't any compelling reasons. I would still like to hear from any people who have gone through the upgrade (with a very large forum.)

Just make sure you backup all your FTP files and Database and upgrade it, if anything goes wrong you can always restore it back to its normal stage.
if you need any help with this let me know, i can help you. (i wont charge you anything ^^) |

I'm in the same boat. Trying to do it on a local server before the big change is done to the real server. It keeps churning and seems to get nowhere fast. We have Threads: 872,540, Posts: 14,786,532, Members: 29,333.
The question is, will the VB3 continue to be supported? Forever? If yes, then we're running just fine and have no need to change. Following the logic of MicroSoft, you need to upgrade or fall into a non-supported software mode, then we need to keep on the latest "supported" software. We wanted to go to VB5 but figured it was too new to make the jump. We wanted it to "soak" a while to insure stability so we were willing to go to VB4 as an interim step to work our way to VB5. Shoot, we can't get from 3 to 4 as it is so 5 is not looking too swift as an option. Did the OP ever get an answer? |
