Looking to add 3 Columns of articles

I am new to cms and i am looking to add 3 columns of articles.

The main header will be news. Then i would like 3 columns for eg world, uk and then local.
I would like to have the page split into 3 with the recent topics on top of each column. I dont want to have to add anything to the nav bar. Just the three columns on the page. I have tried splitting the page with the grid and dividing the news to each section but nothing shows up, only news.

Please help
