Well, I hate to admit it, but I'm not sure what that means (I don't have an iphone and have never used one). But is that the format where it's like conversation bubbles coming from either side? I was actually thinking about that and I have a plugin that puts all the quote info into an array along with information on formatting it, I just haven't actually done the formatting.

Initially all I wanted was to have the PM's limited to a depth of sat two quotes then ignore the rest, but your ideas sound much better - I hope you can come up with something
It's almost working, I'm just taking my time as usual. The problem with conversation mode is that it only works well if both people just quote the entire previous message and write a new message above or below the quote. But if you do anything like quote something else, break up the quote into parts, or type messages above and below the quote, then it doesn't really work that well.
But anyway, I could add your suggestion to limit the depth as an option.
