Default Question about software license to use in a modification

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any information that might be useful regarding my concern; I am almost done with the last touches to my first modification to be released here at vb.org. In this mod I am using the "Nivo" slider (although very modified) integrated within my mod. I plan to release a "lite" version here at vb.org then maybe sell the "Pro" version at some other point. I asked the "Nivo Slider" staff and they said that I can use it commercially because this slider has a MIT license. I want to make sure that there won't be any problems with this once I do offer it for sale. Can anyone confirm that with this license I am able to sale my software with the "Nivo Slider" included? If so are there any special announcement I must make once I do release it here? Any information anyone might provide will be very useful. Thank you for your time.

Regards.

This is only my opinion and guestimate.. If they said it was ok, then I would think you would be good to go. If you do plan on selling it, you may want to read the license agreement or talk with someone in the legal field.

Thanks for your reply Jim. Actually I did explain to them that I was going to sell my software with their slider included and asked if this was ok. This was their response:

Hi Gustavo

Yes the Nivo Slider jQuery plugin is released under the MIT license and so you can use it wherever you want.

Regards
Seems like a very vague response IMO but after doing some research about the MIT license it states that this can be included in software for sale the only condition is that the license (for the Nivo) must also be included with the software, I'm not quite sure what that means though...

1. Yes you can post it here.

2. When you make the license for selling your software, you must include the license from Nivo with it. Usually including a copy of the license that comes with it is sufficient.

Thank you very much for your reply BSMedia. It is much more clear now what I have to do. I really appreciate the help. One more thing; I do apologize for the noobian question beforehand but where would one go to register or create a license for custom software one creates? Or rather how would I go about licensing my software? If you can point me in the right direction I would have more than enough. Thank you again for your time.

A lot of people use http://creativecommons.org/choose/ but I dont think you're going to want that.

Basically you've just gotta do some research (check out the vBulletin license even) and build one that suits your needs. No one can really give you much guidance on it, but if you're going to be selling it, check out some commercial licenses or something.

Thanks . I have been doing some research on it and have a solid idea as to what I would need and where. Thanks again for the help.
