I recently upgraded from 3.8.5 to 4.1.5, when trying to access the 'blocks.php' page to add things to the side bar, I get a database error and am unable to load the page...

Anyone else had this problem or have any idea what might be causing it?

You do not access that page directly. You need to access the page through the admincp. Is that what you are doing? If so, what is the exact database error you are getting and what is the exact url?
