How would I go about having my forums laid out like this: (in regards to the timezones)

I know how to get the colors I wouldn't know how to put the words up there without a background

To be more specific,

See how the TimeZone forums are in Columns? THat's what I want to accomplish. Styling is not the issue, just the layout. Do I need a plugin?
