Screen Grab / Ctrl V post issues (bug?)
Hello
When I grab a screen image and Ctrl v / paste it into my message on my vB, it makes an awful mess. Basically is pastes it as code, and then the message exceeds the permitted character size. So I have to first paste it into a graphics / image program and then save the image, and then upload it into my vB post, which is complicated. Is this a bug or am I missing something. I don't have problems doing a copy/paste on my test site. Can you give an example of some text you are trying to copy/paste?

Hi Lynne
Thanks for the reply and offer of help; I appreciate it, truly. I am not trying to copy and paste text though. I am trying to screen grab a web page and then insert that as an image into a forum post on my vB. What I am attempting to do is offer my forum users the right to discuss swords listed on eBay and other sales sites. Other forums avoid this because, typically, people post links to an item on eBay or wherever which, as you know, gets auto-deleted by eBay / whoever once the item is sold, and then the forum discussion about that item loses its reference point and becomes a farce. So, what I wanted to do is to come up with a simple way for users to screen grab the eBay item page as a graphic and then paste it into their forum message on my site. That way the reference is permanent, for all to see no matter how far into the future. However, when I use "Print Screen / SysRq" to screen grab something and then "Ctrl V" it into the message (as an image) on my forums, it works but not how it is meant to / normally does. Instead of getting a thumb nail image which can then be clicked, what I actually get is yards and yards of code which, even if I could post it (I can't, because the amount of code exceeds the character maximum set for posts), I would not want to. What I want is to screen grab from another site and then insert that image into my post as an image (displayed as a clickable thumbnail, the same as when you upload an image). Regards / thanks / RSVP Suci |

I'm afraid I can't help with that. I'm on a mac and I do a screen grab and end up with an actual file that I can simply upload and it works just fine.

Hi Lynne
You missed the point; it does not matter Mac or Windows. I can screen grab on my Windows PC and create a graphics file of that. What neither I nor you can do is screen grab a web page and paste it directly into a vB message AS AN IMAGE. What you actually paste is a HUGE amount of code; vB does not treat the paste as an image. |

You're missing the point there.
You can copy and paste text all day long because it's text. And text is treated as if you typed it in from your keyboard. Images such as screen dumps have to be saved first as an image and linked to so the software has something to referance and then display. As you have seen the dump if applied directly to a post is just showing the code that is the nuts and bolts of the image itself. And before you say it should do that, none of the forum software I have used, and that's a bunch, has the ability to covert dump code to an image. Maybe some one could write a mod for you to save those few little extra steps. Consider using snipit which is built in to the vista os. |
