Database size?

Can someone tell me if database size can affect a website timing out? My forum database is 200,000+ KB. Is that particularly large?

No, that database size is very small, and it should not affect your site timing out either

Stick around though - the db can only keep growing unless you're willing to prune (delete) posts. Oddly, vb still lacks any method of offloading pruned posts.

Connections timing out can be a lot of things. Slow internet between you and the server is the first suspect, followed by an overloaded server (especially with shared servers).
