Got the following quotes for a VPS.

I'll not bore you with the bandwidth/storage allowance

2GB Ram
cPanel/WHM interface
Split across 2 servers
The first is a frontend server, handling HTTP (Nginx/Apache) and cPanel, and the second server is a dedicated MySQL server with solid state disks.

Server Specs
  • Front-end server hardware: 2x Quad Core i7 CPUs, 24Gb RAM, SAS RAID 10 disks
  • Dedicated MySQL server: Featuring RAID 10 Solid State Disks, 24Gb RAM and 2x Quad Core i7 CPUs!

Service is fully managed and comes with hourly backups.

Total cost ?59.99

The same deal above but with 2 GB ram at ?69.99

That seems pretty powerful for 140 ~ USD a month. I was paying almost 300 usd for half of that.

I'm guessing these are virtualized and not actually dedicated. (I wouldn't use the word dedicated there, personally).

Shop around, regardless of who you go with. www.webhostingtalk.com has a lot of information. Checkout your webhost there before going forward with your paruchase.

How many cores are they allotting you though? All of them? Check that out, too.

That was left out, doesn't mention it anywhere actually but they've been excellent in the past so I do trust them.

Just got burned though, I was reading their quotes wrong. I need to add 20% to everything

So the prices are really ?71.99/$114.76 and ?83.99/$133.73

Getting priced out here.

but remember, this is still a "shared" server. If your other half uses a lot of cpu power, you're still stuck...
