How to remove the "Register" link or edit the text that appears there?

My forum registration is controlled by my membership dashboard, therefore I don't allow users to register through the forum's "Register" link.

How can I either remove the link that says "Register" from the login screen, or alternately (if that's not a configured option), change the message that appears when someone clicks it?
