VB e-mail plugins (mail chimp)
So, we've been looking into setting up a newsletter for our website that automatically draws information from our front page into an HTML e-mail.
We've found two possible solutions so far: 1) ForoMail is a mailing plug-in designed for vbulletin. It has the capabilities to draw information from pages in our CMS, but doesn't format them well and I'm not sure yet how to modify that if at all possible. 2) MailChimp has the flexibility we desire to take a CMS page and convert it to an HTML newsletter. However the MailChimp Plug-In for VBulletin was designed by a third party and was designed for VBulletin 3.8 and we're not sure if its compatible with up-to-date Vbulletin 4.1 software. While we experiment more with this, I'd like to know if anybody out there has done HTML newsletters through VBulletin. Some questions I have: Can ForoMail be modified to convert entire CMS pages into HTML e-mails? Is MailChimp a worthwhile program to try to use? Will it work with vbulletin 4.1? Has anyone tried this before? Does anyone have tips for me? Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide. |

January 13, 2012:
The Mailchimp plugin version 1.2 works for me under VB 4.1.10. It required some configuration to ensure that new registrations are added correctly on the Mailchimp side. I got it to work after 4 failed attempts. It took me a while to realise that I was trying to add the new user to non-existing interest groups in on the Mailchimp side. After configuring group names correctly (and configuring the plugin to send the same name strings), it worked like a charm. |

As far as a I can see, the above Mailchimp plugin simply adds that user's email address to a mailchimp mailing list.
What I'd like to do, which I think is the same as dnenni (thread starter) is to extract content from the VB CMS (or in my case the forums) and push it into a Mailchimp template and mail it via MC. I'd also want some way of synching the mailing list from VB to MC. Has anybody done anything like this? My sense is that there would be a mailchimp template that could suck in XML content prepared by VB. |
