When accessing the user albums page, it takes sometimes 20 seconds for the page to come in. What mysql setting should i increase from the default settings to give mysql more of an ooomph to display that album listings page, and also 'next' photo also takes up to 5 seconds per photo advance.

Are you storing the images in the DB, if so, move them to the file system via the admincp.

You shouldn't store anything image wise in the DB on a fairly large forum.
