vBulletin *for* SEO
I'm considering renewing my vB license for a new website I'm making. It'll primarily be content driven, but I'd like to have vBulletin's powerful backend attached for user & content management, and the great plug-ins made available by vB.org.
However... I would like to do SEO myself. Would vBulletin hinder me from getting the results I desire? That is my main concern - as my website won't be a forum. |

Vbseo does a great job and it's very customizable.

vbulletin 4 CMS is horrible for SEO.
Please vote for this functionality request: CMS SEO rewrite And read the thread discussing the issue: Are there any plans to fix the vbCMS SEO suicide issue? Unfortunately vbSEO can not do much for vbCMS in its current shape: What can vbSEO do for vbCMS its serious SEO issues? |

I have vbseo on my forum and the cms pages/post are getting indexed very well.
Build lots of backlinks to your site and the SEO will be fine. |

Choosing vBulletin for SEO? No. Not unless combined with vBSEO. That probably would be little help though unless you are utilizing the forum functionality.
Otherwise, I'd recommend you choose another platform if the site is not an actual forum. A CMS perhaps. I'd recommend subdreamer. There are open-source alternatives though for sure. |

What kind of site are you putting together? Why would you need vbulletin for it if you do not plan on using it as a forum based site? As Jacquii said there are other options out there that are probably a better bet. If you are looking for a really easy CMS solution that can have and has good seo I've found the best thing to use is Wordpress myself.

To be fare vbulletin cms isnt that cracky as a default out of the box SEO product , but that doesnt mean it can't be made more friendly. It has the functionality to be very good providing you know your way around the setup and template system and google isnt some crappy scrapper , they know there stuff and their bots perhaps do not get the credit they should get, there isnt much that they can not crawl now days , you just have to make it easier for them...........if you know the basics of SEO and you know your way around like i said above there is no reason why your vbulletin installed CMS cant work like any other site.
But you do need to consider your options first , if wordpress will do what you want to do with your site then hit wordpress, If your not planning on using the forum side of things then there isnt any point in over bloating your site with stuff you dont need. |

Currently if I look at the CMS page source code, then I just do not know where to begin. I would honestly love to read instructions on how to clean that mess up. I've optimized my 3.8 site with great care over the years and with good results. But for vb4 CMS I could really use instructions. And as I understand it, so could IB. They solicit input on this as well. |
