Mod to show thread in 2 forums

Ok... here is a strange one... not sure if even possible...

I want to create a sub-forum for smaller advertisers to market (sell) their products. Basically, they can promote their own URL of the sub-forum and keep track of all of their products. These smaller companies sell by the peice (saddles, tack, horses, etc). So, each thread they create is for a single item...

here is what I want... I want their post to ALSO show in my classified ads section. I don't really want to create DUPLICATE threads... I want it to show in both so if someone replies, it appears in both. (if it requires a duplicate thread, I would really need replies to go to both). As well, I will be giving the company mod options to close their threads.

Is this possible? vb.org is an awesome site.. and is full of excellent coders. But is this too much? Is there someone out there that could create this? This won't be a huge money maker for me... but may help me keep the board running another year...

Your classified ads section will be your "Master" forum in your case.

Unfortunately, I have the same issue as someone who posted in your thread. I would need multiple masters... but only link certain forums to each separately. Meaning... I have 7 different classified ad sections (Saddles, Horses, Tack, Misc, Property, etc). And I would have 1 company that sells saddles and would want their posts in that sub-forum to show up in the "Saddle" forum as well. Then, I would have another company that sells tack and have their posts show up in the "tack" forum. And so on, and so on.

Perhaps the fix you mentioned in that thread would work... unfortunately, I don't know enough about coding as I should. This might have to be a project of mine to figure out. lol.

Thanks for putting me on the right course! Awesome that you figured it out! Now, to see if i can figure out how to make it work for me. The other problem is... I would need to make some kind of changes each time I had a company that comes on board. That would be really messy. That was the reason why I was hoping there was some type of mod that could be accessed via the admincp to make quick changes.

I agree it would be great as a mod but so far I haven't been able to figure it out yet. If I ever do I will certainly post about it in the mod thread.

Unfortunately I don't have the time (or probably ability) to try a patch that together to work on 7 master forums but the code is "res-usable" so if you find another coder willing to get it setup how you need it they can certainly use my code as a starting point.

I just wanted to update you on this before you spend too much effort looking elsewhere... I took a look at this code again and have made some real progress in making this a much easier to use mod that you can set as many master forums as you want via the options in the admin cp.

If I don't run into major problems I should be able to release it by Christmas.

It will still require a couple of manual file edits but they will be much simpler edits than in the original mod.

If you can wait a few days I will update the mod thread when this is released.

Honestly, I haven't even started selling advertising on my board yet. It is only 2 months old... 150+ members, 2000 posts. Just getting word out... but I was looking for something like this for small companies... so that maybe I can pay for hosting another year. ;-)
