Header height change issues

I changed the header height by changing the header_padding stylevar Top setting from 0 to 50. The problem I am having is that the login block is now pushed down and sitting in the middle of the header. What do I change to have the login block aligned at the top?

Is the header_padding stylevar not the correct place to change header height?

I've attached a screenshot of what I am talking about.
