php code needs to go in a plugin. HTML goes in templates. You do not put php in templates.

Sorry, but you'll have to just post in these forums as I don't help via PM. Do you know how to create a plugin? There is info in the manual about it and also some articles. If you want it on the forumhome page, then you can probably just put the php into a plugin using the forumhome_start plugin. Make sure you register any variables you plan to use in your template. Cellarius wrote a really good article that you may be interested in regarding that - [vB4] Rendering templates and registering variables - a short guide
