Default Maybe simple - CMS Layout Selection

Hey all,

Any idea how one would go about using the CMS Layout Manager's layouts created, in separate themes? Like default for the default theme, and 'lite' for a custom theme only?

Surely somehow you can code it into the template?

I've been looking around but have yet to find where the content.php page actually references the Layout. I believe wheresoever that is would be ideal to change?

Any thoughts?

-Thanks

Layouts get applied to Sections as do Styles. Just select both in the Section editor. No need to apply a style to a layout.

See I thought that would be a good idea. But the two skin theme/styles are completely different, one geared towards a 2 column while the other is a 4 column, for example.

Now unless I misunderstand, this is what I am looking towards accomplishing.

(consider first section loaded is 'home')
User1 comes in to the forum on the old 'default' Layout (2 column) because he uses StyleDefault for the forum. They go well together.

User2 comes in with the StyleNEW for the forum, and 'default' layout for the cms is too squished; however 'NEWdefault' layout for the cms is set up just right to make the most of the skin.

I'm not sure if this makes more or less sense. What I am getting at I hope, is to load section 'home' with the particular CMS Layout (default or NEWdefault) based on the Skin/theme/style (StyleDefault or StyleNEW) that user has set.

It may not be possible with vB's current coding scheme. Hard to say. Still trying to learn the variables and differences between 3 and 4. But figured I'd ask here to see if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks!

Have you done and looked at the Section Editor? You may pick a specific style to show when you are in that section. You do not need to have it set up to allow the user to pick the style.

Hi Lynne, I have done that but can not see how you can apply multiple to the same section? OR a thought had crossed my mind, since you can't (possibly) maybe it would be easier to somehow load a different default section for the other vbulletin theme? So default is home like normal, and newdefault skin loads 'portal'. For an example

If you go to the section and are admin, you can put your mouse over the section title, click the pencil and go in to the section editor. In there you can select a specific style for that section.

HOWEVER< this is where I am having difficulty.

After changing a section to a different style from the homepage, it does not show the background to the new style, even though it's definitely been added to the stylevar for the style.

I tried this across, Firefox, IE and chrome. If I make the section style I want to use as the main style for the site then refresh the main page, the new style will show including background. If I then put the site back to the style it had originally and refresh, then click on the section with a different style, the background shows!

It's as if something stops the new style background loading initially.

Any thoughts?

The new style has the main site style as the parent.

Does anyone think it could be some sort of cache issue maybe?
