This is a very simple mod... I was having a massive spam account problem on my forums. Everyday, about 30 accounts register on my forum, and the majority of them are all spam accounts. They don't post on the forums, but they register, set up a signature, post on blogs and profile pages, and send spam PMs.

What this mod does, is hook into the signature creation. Whenever anyone submits their new signature, if it contains a URL at all, it will send the admin of the forums an email. The email contains:

$username ( mailto:$email ) has returned a positive on signature spam check:

$signature
----------

Posts: $posts ( $bburl/search.php?do=finduser&u=$userid )

Control Panel Edit $bburl/admincp/user.php?do=edit&u=$userid
Delete This Account: $bburl/admincp/user.php?do=remove&u=$userid

As you can see, it includes the username, their email address, the number of posts they have made, a link to search their posts, a link to view their control panel profile, and of course a direct link to delete the account.

Why would you want to keep a spammer as a member

Because they might not be an actual spammer but have a sig that says they are.

I get those too.. Here is a solution from me:

Create a new usergroup for user whose post counts are between 0 to 20. and disable Signature for them. A real looser will still make 20 post and then put a link in sigg, you can delete that too later on

By doin that you will get two benefits (1) Discourage Spammers (2) along with signature you can offer other options too so das how you will courage users to post.

It almost reduce 90% of spamming at my forum tho.. I do like your idea too.. but I will still have to check my emails and go to admin cp and edit or delete their sig then banned.... thats too much hassle
