Am I Being Cheated by My DSL Provider?

Hey folks,

My internet connection is currently with Verizon DSL which said Download speed up to 1MB/sec.

However, everytime I download something the max speed TOPS at 90/kbs and can't go beyond that.

Downloading a file around 90/kbs is not even close to 10% of the 1MB capacity they enlisted or promised.. so what the hell.. am I being ripped off or what?

There are a lot of factors that go in to the quality of your DSL.

How far away from a hub or whatever are you, other traffic on your lines, hardware equipment, the filters, etc etc etc.

You're best bet is to call verizon and complain to them, have them send a tech out or whatever to see what the problem is, not much we can do here...

1MB is not what you are promised. 1Mb is. They are vastly different things.

1 megabyte = 8 388 608 bits. 1 megabit = 1 048 576 bits. Quite a difference.

Haha I live in shit old Belfast and I get 5MB, thats a DVD rip in about 2 minutes and a blue ray in about 20.

Mobile only does 3Mb though

Why is DSL so slow in the states, Virgin is rolling out 40MB over the next year over here in the UK.
