Latest Thread boxes above forum lists

I would think someone would have already created a mod to do this or figured out template edits, but I couldn't find anything for the searches I was doing.

I want to create the following two boxes on my forum, I'm talking about the "latest discussions" and "overclocking news" boxes.

See attached picture for example.

Anyone know of any mods or edits to do this? Thanks for any help you can provide!
