Align post icons left or in their own column?

I tried to float the images left using CSS and that did work, but it also floated a few things, like smilies left (which isn't desirable). I tried to apply that CSS to only .fieldset, img for the thread list, but that didn't seem to do anything, so perhaps I wasn't doing it right.

Any ideas?
