I am unable to reset my administrator password.
My password reached the maximum date for usability. I reset it through my my email and logged in with the vB generated password. I went to my user cp and tried to reset my password. I entered the vb generated password into the current password field and then entered my desired new password. I then hit save. When I hit save a small window appeared asking me to confirm which user I was changing the password for. I chose my administrator username. I was then sent to a page that said I was unable to reset my password because my original password didn't match. This field was being auto populated with 4 character password, which I know isn't the right password because of the length. I have multiple users I have created from my IP address including the administrator. I then tried to reset the password in vB admin panel, this was also unsuccessful. I have tried reset my password 4 times now using the vB generated password and user cp and admin with the same result. I then tried to change other users password I had created to test to see if it was larger problem and sure enough it is and was and I was unable to reset any passwords in the admin or user cp. Can someone please help me with this problem? |

You could make a new account and upload tools.php to the admincp, enter ur vb customer # and then put your new accounts name into "restore admin access"
Also if this does not work use tools.php to reset the cookie settings. |

The problem is I can't reset the password to a password I choose, I can only use the vB generated password. This is a forum wide problem, no one can reset their passwords. I tried to do it for them, but even in the admin when I enter a new password and save the profile, the new password still doesn't work. Will your recommendation help my site wide problem and where do I find tools.php? Thanks very much for the response. |

tools.php can be found in the do_not_upload folder of the vBulletin default files
After using it, remove it. |

How do you mean you can not change the password in the AdminCP? Do you get an error message? If so what is it.
Also are you sure you are using a vB generated password or only a reset token sent to your mail? |

I am using a reset token, that is sent to the users email. This is the only way I can get a password changed. At this point when a user signs in with the token, they can't change their password and have to use random number/letter password that was given in the token. Thanks for any assistance. |

To troubleshoot this, please remove any hacks and disable your plugins, then see if you still have this problem.
Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true); If so, reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. If your problem still exists, please create a new Style with no Parent set. Now browse the forum using this new style, do you still have the same problems? If you are troubleshooting login or guest issues, you will need to set this style as board default in the vBulletin Options. |
