Protecting a subdirectory 3rd party app
Question, I just implemented a subscription section of the site, is there a way to install something like coppermine or just any old custom gallery to mysite.com/subscriptionpics and only allow subscribed users to use it?
I had the thought of using a .htaccess file and a forum that only subscribed users had access to and thought maybe of using the .htaccess to block all traffic that didn't originate from that thread. Just a thought, it would be much better to just be able to block all people not in usergroup 6. |

If you're using vBulletin 4.0 Suite then you can use the CMS. The vBulletin CMS has different "sections" you can post. You could create a "subscriptionpics" section. Then in the "permissions" area, you just set it to remove the permissions from anyone not in your subscription group.

I am running vb4 but am unsure what you mean about the CMS. What I have is a large group of photos that could easily be displayed by something like the "Single file PHP photo script". It wouldn't be part of the forums per sea, I would just like to use the membership permissions so they can't bookmark the photo gallery and use it past their subscription period.

There are two versions of vb4, there's the forums classic version and the publishing suite. The publishing suite has this type of functionality built into it.
If you don't have the publishing suite you can use this modification: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=237931 Just go through every single usergroup except your subscriber group and make sure their permissions for "Can View Albums" is set to "no". |
