vb4: it's a matter of when, not if...

Hi guys,

I've got a couple of vb sites, and I've been watching the progress of vb4 with great interest. For me, it's not a matter of if I upgrade. Just a matter of when it happens..

The only thing that stops me from upgrading right now frankly is the lack of available themes. While I *could* knock out one that I like, I'm at a point in my life where it's no longer nearly as fun to do stuff like that that it used to be. "been there, done that".

vb3 on the other hand, has a lot of great themes available so I'm waiting to see which -- if any -- get migrated.

One of the problems I see is that vb4 tries to extend itself into the Wordpress and Xoops territories with news postings and all that. Not really a problem (it's great!) but for theme developers, this seems to be a point of contention and mindset. They're so used to building FORUM themes that the idea of writing a professional theme to suit a news, product, or other site seems to be stopping them for some reason.

I -- for one -- don't want my vb4 site to seem like an "adapted from a forum" web site. I would much rather be able to put together a theme that lets me build an "Ars Technica" or CNN type site that "has a forum by the way" instead of the forum being the main and only real focus.

I thought about using Wordpress and just using the vBulletin bridge software, but again, getting the themes to match between Wordpress and vB just feels impossible. The issue there is that I'm getting really tired of waiting.

In the end, I guess my question is this: What do you think we're looking at for a timeframe where everyone gets their act together and starts tossing out professional looking vB 4.x themes?

Just a matter of time, I would personally like more CMS frontpage options.

I don't want to look like every other CMS with just different colors and differences between how many columns are used.
