help>>>-moving vb to differnt servers risk scenario-
hello,..
took over a forum. want to move it to another server. the host says we should do a fresh install and then move the files over. here's the problem. right now the forum is 4.0 and i have the suite...but the site is running a 3.8.4 skin and somebody added folders and created blog/front page tabs which is stupid hard to edit update. i could care less if i lose this this crap as all the data is replaceable..should i delete the folders? or will they not show up anyway, as..........i want to install a fresh copy of 4.0.2 w/ the integrated cms and have them move the data over. what potential problems could happen?...i don't think it would be a bad decision to do this as 4.0 is the same platform as 4.0.2.. thoughts? |

TheLastSuperman did a article on this on vb.com
We have just done it, but we had 3 guys working at it for 12 hours solid, so not enough time to explain here |

We shifted domains
We shifted servers We like TWATS killed the old server, so have lost old forum traffic, now links are dead. We redid the databases We killed all mods We upgraded to 4.0.2 p1 Quite a task, but actually.. a lot easier if you keep the same mysql prefix ! obviously |
