Subscribe to thread default "subscribed"
Can the default be set to have them subscribed instead of not subscribed ?

Do you mean in threads? If so, have a look at the Acp-Settings-Thread Display Options (showthread) and tick the Yes option for Check Thread Subscription.

May not be what I am looking for, I'm thinking that by default a user should be subscribed to a thread that they either start or post to and then the link would be to unsubscribe them if they choose to.

Try AdminCP>Maintenance>Execute SQL Query>Automatic Query>Instant email notification. Note that you will need to have set yourself up to run SQL queries (in config.php I think).

Ok , There is a default setting in the user registration options that allows it to default to the user being subscribed to the thread but only after they have posted which is half the battle, I guess I assumed that it also meant that if they started the thread it would also subscribe them, I don't understand the logic there. So right now they won't be subscribed unless they post to it one more time even if they started it. Does that sound right ?

If they started the thread then they have posted in it.

Hey thanks for the help, this turns out to be a problem with easy forms, when they start the thread from an easy form it doesn't subscribe them otherwise if they do it conventionally it does subscribe them, sorry for the trouble . I appreciate your help on it.
