Changing Domain Names
We , that is I and my admin/mod staff have had an online meeting.
The upshot of which is that we change our domain name. What is involved ! We are a medium/small forum. Threads 16,271 Posts 164,444 Members 1,036 Ranked quite well on the search engines. But time has come to change domain names. Ok so what do we do, what are we allowed to do, and how do we do it. 1st off. vbulletin and vbseo licensing, can we transfer current licenses to new domain ? 2nd. can we get inbound traffic redirected on a per post/thread basis. such as: http://oldomain.com/forum/news/12345-mycatatemydog.html to http://newdomain.com/forum/news/1234...atethedog.html Is that feasible, new domain will be on same server . VPS server What about databases etc... Any help greatly appreciated, its not a definite move, but worthy of serious consderation. VBSEO.com have asked the question there about: a) redirect the url but keep the path intact b) transferring license Now I need a database guru, to tell me what the best way of moving the db to new domain, and not losing any of the data. essentially changing db prefix from abcd_ to efgh_ Any help appreciated.
