Hosting Service Recommendations?
I have been with HostRocket for about 3 years with a half dozen different sites (vB and otherwise). In the past they were inexpensive, relatively stable and fairly flexible when it came to "Can you adjust this or install that" kind of requests. I have an SSH shell, FTP, full cPanel, etc. All seems good...well lately they have been goign down A LOT. The server status shows the drives at 98%+ full, CPU is bouncing between great and maxed out, and support has gotten to the point where about 80% of the times I call I get "Due to high call volume, please try your call again later" or it simply instantly hangs up. So yes, I am afraid they are dead to me... I even opened a ticket asking (in a professional way) what the outages were contributed to. They closed the ticket without a reply.
Due to this I need a new host. Any recommendations? Here is my "dream sheet": - Linux shared hosting at a reasonable price - ImageMagick + GD - Ability/willingness to adjust PHP settings (mainly timeouts and max uploads) per account - MaxMind GeoIP Support - ffmpeg support to create thumbnails for video uploads - STABLE STABLE STABLE - cPanel or equiv - Proven track record of hosting vB sites (with plugins like PhotoPost) reliably with decent drive space and CPU numbers - Responsive support Problem is none of my sites are big enough to justify a dedicated server or even dedicated virtual server at this point. Stuck with a shared host. Are my wanted items too much to ask? |
