Default Big 4.0 upgrading issue!!

Ok so this is a bit of a mess. I wasn't sure what to do here so just go with it lol

I went to upgrade my forum from 3.8.3 to 4.0 and i uploaded all the files from the 4.0 and all that, started running the upgrade.php script, and then realized in the "readme.html" file for it it said i needed to FIRST upgrade to 3.8.4, which made me panic thinking i was gonna F someithing up, so I stopped the upgrader after it completed the step for whatever it did to album pictures, then downloaded-uploaded the 3.8.4 files, and went to the upgrade.php again, and thats when hell broke loose.

I have since been able to get my forum working again 'somewhat' by download/uploading the 3.8.2 files, i thought that's what version i had before but someone told me it was 3.8.3 a second ago.

So now my forum works, but I get database errors whenever things involving albums or the search function are attempted to be used.

The search mysql error is:

PHP Code:
Invalid SQL:

SELECT searchiddateline
        FROM search
AS search
        WHERE userid
1
ORDER BY dateline DESC LIMIT 1
;

MySQL Error   Table 'my_dbname.search' doesn't exist

Script        : http://tweeaks.com/forums/search.php?do=process
Referrer      : http://tweeaks.com/forums/usercp.php

Album mysql error is:

PHP Code:
Invalid SQL:

SELECT album.*,

picture.pictureidpicture.extensionpicture.idhashalbum.moderation,

picture.thumbnail_datelinepicture.thumbnail_widthpicture.thumbnail_height

            FROM album
AS album
            LEFT JOIN picture
AS picture ON (album.coverpictureid picture.pictureid AND picture.thumbnail_filesize 0)

WHERE album.userid 1

AND album.state IN ('public''private''profile')

ORDER BY album.lastpicturedate DESC
            LIMIT 3
;

MySQL Error   Table 'jaredwilli.picture' doesn't exist

Script        : http://tweeaks.com/forums/member.php?u=1

Hopefully you won't laugh too hard, and will be able to tell me a quick and simple fix, and how to go about upgrading from here lol.

Let me know if I am forgetting any information needed to make a decision about what to do.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!!

I'm finding more issues in the admincp too. like the admincp home page gets an error too.

Basically is there any way to just continue the 4.0 upgrade from where it left off, after completing the step for converting albums to attachments or whatever it did in that step?

I wish i just let it finish instead of stopping it ...

I have never heard anything about having to upgrade a 3.8.3 board (or any version board) to 3.8.4 first - where did you get this info because I don't see it in the readme files. All you should have to do is upload the vb4 files and run the upgrade script. Once your database starts to be upgraded for 4.0, there is no going back. You will have to use your backup to go back to the 3.8 series.

It says this in the vb4_readme.html

Upgrading from older versions of vBulletin

Before upgrading to vBulletin 4.0, you will need to download the files to upgrade to vBulletin 3.8.4. Once your community is running on vBulletin 3.8.4, then you can upload the vBulletin 4.0 files and perform the upgrade to this version. If you need assistance with this, contact vBulletin Support.

There is a section right before it that is for: Upgrading from vBulletin 3.8.4

I saw this and panicked, thinking that it had to upgrade from 3.8.4. vbulletin is picky so I have no idea what could happen.

I don't have access to the readme, but I presume those are instructions for upgrading from a version of vBulletin prior to 3.0. I wouldn't think 4.0 would be any different from the 3.5+ series where the upgrade script does all that as you go along.

well I would agree with you on that, now reading it again. but it doesn't say specifically, so I assumed it was prior to 3.8.4

So should i try to re-upload 4.0 files, and start the script at the step i left off?
i believe i stopped it at upgrade_400a1.php?step=10
so I'll try that.

I really did create a mess out of it already lol. I should've paid more attention. Too busy with 3 other sites Im working on at the same time.

ok so I managed to finish the upgrade.php script, and did all that stuff.

when it was done, i went to log in and i get these php errors...

PHP Code:
Warningfetch_template() calls should be replaced by the vB_Template class in [path]/includes/functions.php on line 3895
PHP Code:
Warningarray_merge() [function.array-merge]: Argument #1 is not an array in [path]/includes/class_bootstrap.php(1133) : eval()'d code on line 1

EDIT:

I was able to access the admincp via another tab that i had it open in. so nevermind.

Okay, thanks for not laughing too much, I think I made an even bigger mistake though that has to do with upgrading to the wrong version Patch Level. So I have contacted vbulletin support and hopefully they can help me solve this issue.

I feel so stupid haha. oh well. If my forum were a bigger site it might be more serious to me, but it had less than 500 members, and yeah. its not as serious. I have db backups too.

Have a happy holiday everyone!!

You know, I honestly do not have that text in my readme file. I wonder if they added it when they put out the patch (which I haven't downloaded).

But anyway, those errors you got after finishing the upgrade are from a modification. Disable it, and the errors will go away.
