Default How do I get rid of a programmer?

Hired a guy to work on my VB4 forum from here, now he doesn't respond. He has my admin access and I don't have his password. How do I rid myself of him and protect my site?

I've disabled my site from the DNS in the meantime. Now I suppose I need to start over.

Is there a list of people to avoid or a complaint board here? This was my first attempt with a forum, and after this crap, I'm ready to dump the site and software. Not worth the hassle of having someone act this way on my virgin run.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Moved to General vB4 Discussions. Please read the Site Rules, in particular these:
Quote:
  1. All members must be treated in a respectful and adult manner. All members should respect and adhere to the promotion of harmony within the community. Do not attempt to disrupt the community in any way.
  2. No "Flaming". Please do not post any messages that harass, insult, belittle, threaten or flame another member or guest.
Do NOT get into particulars regarding a specific user, keep this general.

Change your passwords to your server. That should keep him off. Then you should be able to create a new user, upload tools.php to the admincp folder, and promote that user to admin status. Then demote him - you may have to take his userid out of the config.php file.

Vbulletin.org can not endorse the person you hire if they are not a staff member of vbulletin.org.

Actually, I do not think they even endorse a Staff member. Sure, we are 'high profile' here and you might want to assume we are legit, but there are no promises that we are legit. You should do your research on a Staff member too.

If its on a vb4 site, then these are supposed to be test sites only at mo, and not used for working forums.

That being the case, create new database, and change config.php file, and start over.

I stand corrected, but I am sure if it was a staff member and you contacted an admin here it will be taken care of. That is my opinion though.

I keep hearing this over and over. People with new forums dont have alot to lose by going live and testing the beta at the same time for the eventual upgrade of there larger community's. Ive found tons and tons of bugs testing in a live environment that otherwise would have went unnoticed. I have evaluated the risk i may be taking and have determined that since the community is a start up, i could live with a potential rebuild. Technically we are doing everyone who is only using the beta behind the htaccess a favor, By finding far more bugs much quicker then in a limited test environment.

VonDoom... Agreed as you don't have much to lose but anyone else leave your live site alone and make a test site (it must be turned off to the public etc) and as some said above.. change PWd's to everything and demote his account. Look for any new folders on your server and make sure he did not upload any folders/files of his own w/ scripts he could run if angered lol.

I was cheated about 2 months ago I believe.. I can't remember the time frame and the owner only blocked me from the site via htaccess by IP, I can still get in and take the entire site down due to knowing the spare admin account info and the PW to another FTP account HOWEVER I would NEVER EVER DO THAT, personally good luck to that bum imo and long story short not everyone let's stuff go like I do.. we are all different so be sure to look into ANYONE you hire.. click their profile, view their mods, find all posts by that member read through some see what his/her temperament is in the posts... is he/she usually nice 99% of the time... what have they been an butthead about? Would you have responded that way? There's so much you need to learn about them because they are about to learn a WHOLE lot about you and your site and once someone has admin and FTP access they can do what they want with your site while your drinking a cup of coffee and you would never know it O.o unless they made it apparent.

So before I go, a HUGE.. BE CAREFUL when hiring someone, a HUGE read the stickied threads in any FORUM, and a HUGE GOODLUCK Xabia and Happy Holiday's to everyone else!
