Upgrade troubles
Recently we've decided on making changes to our website. Going from a forum only to installing a CMS ( Joomla). I asked previously about moving all of the VB files into a subdirectory, out of the root and then doing an upgrade from 3.7 to 3.8.
Did this, extracted the newest 3.8 files into the subdirectory, mysite.com/VBulletin. Ran the install php and it did its thing with no error messages. Which, BTW, the install didn't ask me where or confirm where, I wanted VB installed to. Just did it, would be nice if a person had the option to either designate or confirm the installation path. Anyway, I can no longer get into the admincp of VB. I checked the forum and it comes up but some members can login, some can't. Checked the database thru phpadmin and I see that its double its usual size. There are the 'original' files and then there are the duplicates with the VB3_ prefix. So how do I go about fixing this mess. There are more troubles but don't think its nessecary to list them all. Just need to get the forum back up running properly before I bridge Joomla and VB together. Thx for your help. |

1. Upload tools.php to the admincp folder, reset the cookie options, path & domain.
2. What is the prefix setting in the old config.php?, if the old config.php had a prefix set ie vb3_, then the tables with out are duplicates, but they were not because of the upgrade, you failed to set the table prefix when you uploaded and used the new config.php file. 3. The is no path option as its not needed, thats what the URL setting is for in the admincp vbulletion options. 4. Delete your cookies, temp cache and restart your browser. |

Still can not login to the admin panel. Uploaded tools.php as instructed and get the following security message.
Security Alert! tools.php still remains in the /admincp/ directory. This poses a security risk, so please delete that file immediately. You cannot access the control panel until you do so. Where in the database do I look to reset the user/pswd? I'm thinking of renaming the original DB and then doing a backup restore with the backup that I'd taken earlier. Just staying with 3.7 as it didn't seem to have any troubles at all. Doesn't really look like 3.8 is much of an upgrade anyway. Would this be an easier route. Have to get this forum back to functionality. Thx for your reply BTW |

Once you upload tools.php, you need to run it from your browser lol, my bad as i didnt specifically tell you that, but it works just like any other.
yourdomain.com/forums/admincp/tools.php The problems were caused by you, not the vb upgrade. You also need to look at the tables and see what ones are actually used, the tables with or without data, if the vb3_ tables are not empty, then you need to correct your config.php to use them or the non-prefixed tables. |
