Installing templates?

How do i install a template? Are the template sections in the control panel all .php files? (The Edit part)

I am really clouded by how i would install a .php page into say the forum home page templates as they all just keep going to the Custom templates section of the edit part?

If say i added the template forum_links to the forum template section, what would be the $**** name. In example things like $footer and $header. These are how the pages are linked right, because i am unsure about how they are named as i can't see a pattern?

Can anyone help my woes?

All templates are stored in the database. Very little HTML is in the PHP files.

You can't "install" a template in the groups listed. Only global templates exist in these groups. Any template you add is added to the Custom Templates group.

In order to use a customized template you need to evaluate and parse it first using the eval statement and the gettemplate function. The $XXXXX word is what ever the variable you create is. Most often these are created to match or closely resemble the template name.

To put a template in another simply use the variable name.

There is a template reference in the Member's area that tells you how the different templates fit together. To figure out how to evaluate a template, look at misc.php.
