Default white dot on desktop

its been bugging me for a while now...i dont know what is causing it.

this is this annoying small white dot on the desktop. i have taken a screen shot of it and pasted below. the dot is there at all times UNLESS i click the show desktop button, then it vanishes. but if i have active windows it is there. the screen shot i took is without the icons showing, and its still there.

any ideas?

It's your monitor :P

My 19" started having one a while back... try "lightly" tapping it ( AND I MEAN LIGHTLY ) to see if it goes away for a bit.

Let us know, I would not think it would be a video card issue due to it being one little pixel, it seems that one little spot on your monitor decided to be "white" mine is "green" well now it's my Daughters monitor but she has not noticed yet!

@SM, a screenshot won't show a dead / stuck pixel as its a physical defect.

Prolly an issue with your GFX card.

That does make BETTER sense but does not explain why it remained on my daughters screen as I kept my rig to hookup to the 40" and she got the 19" for her dell so it is a defect in the monitor although it should still screenshot not sure on how it all I guess I should phrase it as "layered"... strange and not sure honestly. I'm torn between monitor and video card but like I said similar yet mine was a green dot so could have been slightly different in nature however has to be the monitor because it's now connected to a different cpu i.e. video card.

Try this see if anything helps

Could it be in the background image you use?

Gotti, is this right? What is your background image? Chage it to something all black.. open up Paint increase the size to 1024 x 768 or bigger if using a higher resolution then set that as your desktop background and now click show Desktop... I bet it's still there you just never noticed because of the current (now previous) desktop background.

Try the guide too but more importantly let us know what it was when you get it all sorted I'm curious about this

i tried it with a image and this dot is still there. i dont get it...it only removes itself when i click on the show desktop button in windows 7

--------------- Added [DATE]1256180513[/DATE] at [TIME]1256180513[/TIME] ---------------

it isnt a burnt pixel. its showing up on my 32 inch lcd as well...just did a test...its something to do with something, i just dont know what it is....

let me explain it again...

you know the "show desktop" button/tool that minimizes everything open? when i click that button it goes away. when i reopen the tab(s) or anything that is minimized, the white dot comes back.

That would have to mean it's some kind of window open. Though, it doesn't look like you have much besides Photoshop running.

I'd suggest to check your process list for any suspicious executable names.
