How hard will Vb4 be to learn?
Seriously I'm just now getting comfortable with VB 3.X so how much different will V4 be and will a tech knob like me be able to "get it" within a few months at least? Thank you Gab |

A lot of it is a change in syntax. You no longer say <if condition="">, you now say <vb:if condition="">; you no longer use $bbuserinfo[userid] to spit out the userid in a template, instead you use {vb:raw bbuserinfo.userid}. evaling templates is also done a bit differently also. I believe there are a few blogs over on vb.com that go over those changes and show you the new syntax.

Thank you lyne and LocoM
I don't understand a whole lot of coding so will I have to learn more or can I just press a button so to speak? This is the one problem with IPB is that the owner has to know more code. Like now, I just want to be able to select a color and press save. Or upload a quick mod type of thing. Will I be able to pick a color like a do now in the styles or will I have to look for the code? |

4.0's administrative area will look and operate very, very similarly to the way it does under 3.8. The administrative side of vBulletin will be rewritten in a later release (4.1 or 4.2).

Without any working demo it's really hard to say.

OK thank you.
James with this later releases 4.1 ... how much rewriting do you think will happen? Will the admin be completely different looking? I went over and looked at everything but I I don't understand half the stuff I'm reading. In all honestly, I just really want a point and click system-less thinking the better. ![]() |

Jelsoft is trying to make their software better for everyone, experts and beginners. I doubt (I don't know for sure) that vBulletin would make you search through lines of code to edit simple colors. I'm assuming that you mean the way it is now, you can edit all of the classes in one page? And it has a pop-up box that you can select colors from, and such? I highly doubt Jelsoft would remove that.

![]() I would expect (and this is my theory, not anything official) that the Forum Admin CP will be restyled in 4.1 or 4.2 to look something like the CMS Admin CP of 4.0 Publishing Suite. Here's a screenshot of the CMS Admin CP, courtesy vBulletin.com: http://files.vbulletin.com/images/ca...ion_inline.png Personally, I think the CMS Admin CP looks friendlier than the Forum Admin CP we're used to under 3.x. ![]() |

Thank you Traison and James,
With the 3.0 series, the admin panel has SOOO much so I do hope 4.0s ACP is better laid out. Thank you James, I saw the ss of the control panel and it kind of has me worried, looks confusing to me. ![]() Would also like drop and drag forum and catagory building. This crap with having to change or add a forum one and a time, then save, is getting old, especilaly when you have to do it for several forums. IN other words I would really just like to drag one forum to # 5 spot and then drag under forum to another location instead of doing it they way we have to do it now. Would be so much easier and faster that way. |
