Possible to create a script for forum users that extracts data from separate databas?

I was wondering if it were possible with vbulletin or vbadvanced to create a script, or bbcode that extracts specific data from a mysql database that is separate from the vbulletin database.

for example, make it so when a forum user makes a post containing "[citedlink=ID#]-description-[/citedlink]", the url corresponding to that ID# in the separate database is where the -description- is linked to.
