Is there a way to install a skin into a template from another skin?
I just found a nice skin thats fixed width but it's a bit too narrow.

I've tried changing the Body width in the css, but nothing...

It's the Extremepixels Titanium 3.7.4 skin, i want to keep the default vb template on the index.
Like, body width, space for forum names, space for latest threads ect...

I don't understand exactly what you want to do. You can install the style on your site (not make it selectable by users) and then copy/paste any templates you want into another style.
