Limit users/guests
I was wondering if someone could make a hack where you are able to choose how many overall users/guests are allowed to connect to the forum at any one time.

Why would you block possible AdVenue-Bringers out ?
I mean, limit the posts they can read is already way too much for a forum or limiting the chars a guest can read from a post... But totally blocking out ?... But you might just want to read out how many guests have been "active" in the last X Minutes. If variable "How Many Guests" is higher than Y redirect them to page Z. But I personally, wouldn't suggest that, except you have really a reason for that.

Simply, our server cannot support the amount of users/guests viewing our forum.
How would I do what you've suggested?

Anyone able to help with this matter?
Disallowing guests from viewing isn't an option.
