Taking the Plunge! Doberman Community.
Doberman Chat has gone thru seveal reincarnations Starting out on a free IPB platform. I quickly decided i needed more options and upgraded to my own server and a owned IPB licence. Then decided it was time to join the real world and get serious, And bought a vB licence and migrated. So needless to say ive been building this site steadily for almost a year now. And im finally at the oint where i think im ready to ask for honest unbiased reviews. I am aware the forum still screams vB but that is intentional because i wanted my users to feel comfortable with the layout and feeling of a product so well known. Hping this contributes positivly to there browsing expierance.
Anyways heres the link Doberman-Chat |

Hi Von,
I think your layout is fantastic and your hardwork shows. Not crazy about the color scheme but I understand where you're going with it. On your "Brown" them, I love the second column color, I think it's a cream color. I think that part should be integrated in the one that you're showing here. Overall, great layout. Good amount of info on main page but not cluttered. Good job! |

Thank you for the constructive critisism on the colors. I myself have been toying with th idea of trying to blend the different themes so that they somehow appear to be the same but different. Making the differnt variations of the Brown skins with one common color is a good idea. And your right most members do perfer the Theme titled Brown. so that would be the one id use to achieve this.
The forum is actually pretty clean as a guest. but it gets pretty busy once you log in. |

yes browns and yellows are difficult to work with. I do like your "Brown" theme the best. I would also make your title a little lighter as it seems to dark on my screen. I really love your nav bar at the top.

Hey i like your site !, i think its great , good content , really like it , design is good , simple as you can get , but that doesn't bother me , dont know why and im a designer :S .. anyway , now that i think about it , maybe a logo wouldn't do you harm hehe..
Ok well , lets see , other than quite a couple of ads per page , everything seems to be ok , i would Definitely allow members to choose between fixed and fluid widths .. I have a very wide screen and i dont like to read from side to side , but thats just me.. Good luck , hopefully these suggestions help you out. |

Thank you Xtrato, i will definatly look into all the above suggestions. its intresting that you say you had to horizontally scroll to read the forum. this is an issue i was totally unaware of.
--------------- Added [DATE]1248934008[/DATE] at [TIME]1248934008[/TIME] --------------- Thanks again, i really havent had time to rework the color scheme but i for sure will. and your comment about my navbar made me smile. i know a bit silly but im most proud of the header. it was difficult maintaining a stock vB feel and still coming up with somthing moderatly unique. Thanks again for the compliments. |
