Upload Photos to Site...but

from a mobile/cell phone.

Currently have Mobile style detector running with special mobile style, however some of my members are looking for the ability to upload photos/videos (a la Facebook) whilst in the stripped down style.

Has anyone come across anything that allows this, or do I need to revert back to normal site display on mobiles ?

We will be releasing a plug-in that does this in a week. The product is called roaming threads (www.roamingthreads.com)

will it just post a pic to a thread with attachments on... or can members upload the pic to their albums?

Images will be saved on a folder on the forum owners site and will be displayed in threads using IMG tags bracketing the appropriate link. A site owner could write a small custom script pushing these pictures to their member albums, but it is just as easy for a member to do this themselves when they are at a desktop.

Oh I see, just a quick way to get pics up on the forum. Not what Im looking for myself.

Most mobile image uploads are not what members want to put into their albums. If they want to move these images to their albums they can do so in a few seconds when they are at a desktop. This www.roamingthreads.com plug-in is to allow real-time sharing of images directly into threads and posts from a mobile device. Many of these pictures will be exciting content, but not always the highest quality.

if your server is down, does this thing stop working? Or is it completely independant of your server and works just between a cell phone and our forums?

We are launching this with a new, dedicated server and will have some failure redundancy built in. Our server is necessary for the handling of the messaging and image parsing, so if the server is down it will effect new roaming threads and posts from occurring. All posted images are stored on your server so a server failure on our part will not effect any previous images or threads that have roaming posts.

Forum owners need to install a plug-in for this to work. We are offering the platform as a service since most forum owners will find it too difficult to configure their servers to handle the messaging and image parsing functions. If someone really wants to control both the plug-in and the server platform then I am sure we could work something out and sell them a different type of license.
