Forum maintainance
We have had our forum for several years now, and our database is almost a gigabyte in size. Are there some best practices on database management? Stuff like why archiving is good? How to optimize the database, some guidelines on how often you should perform certain tasks? I am really at a loss.
Thanks! |

There isn't really much to do. The only thing i do on a regular basis, is that i recreate the database whenever i upgrade vB.

Really? Isn't a gigabyte database a concern? At least regarding performance?
Does archiving do anything important? Is that something I should do? |

A 1GB database dont really mean anything, performance depends on many factors.
A link to your site or posting your forum info, # of post/threads might help others help you. Do you store images in the DB, if so move them to the file system via the admincp. |

1Gb is really not too much. Like i said, i only recreate the DB on an upgrade (export, create new DB, import) which will already ensure that all data is consecutive.
"Archiving"? |
