I have created a separate category on my forum that will receive RSS Feeds from various websites throughout the day. Since these may be a lot, I do not want these threads to appear in the active topics list (ie. "new posts" link). Do you know if vB has this option or do I need to install a mod for this?

Yes, you can edit the New Posts link to exclude certain forums. See this thread for more information:

a 2nd question that comes out of this is if its possible to have these threads appear in the "NEW POSTS" once they've been replied to?

Is it possible? Almost anything is possible if you code it that way. Is it easily possible? Not in a way I can think of right now.
