Default Assigned Admin authority function

Hi everyone,

I wanted someone to become an Admin also just like me. What will be his functions? or what can he do?

I'm just afraid if he can backup the database and if he plan to leave he can have my database with it. So i just want it to be clear, what are really the fucntions of an assigned admin who can also access the admin area just like me? can he do anything just like what I can do to the site? will he have all the authority to do things he want to do for the site? I'm just wondering, curious and somewhat worried of what he can possibly do to the site.

Under Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Administrator Permissions you'll see a listing of all users in the Administrator group. Editing permissions adjusts what they can and cannot do in the Admin CP. If you give him access to everything in there, he'll be able to do everything you can do on the forums and in the Admin CP. I believe setting "Can Run Maintenance Tools" to "No" will prevent that admin from running backups if that's a concern.

Thanks. But I'm not sure where can I find that "Can Run Maintenance Tools" to "No". I tried looking at the Admin permissions but to no avail.

You need to login to the Admin CP, go to the "Usergroups" category then click on "Administrator Permissions." From there click on "Edit Permissions" for the proper user and the option should be there.

Go into your FTP.
Then /includes then go to Config.php, and right click and press "View or Edit".

Then press CTRL and F.
Then type in SUPER ADMIN.
Then you have to put his/her User ID.

I would recommend against doing it that way. Users that are listed as Super Administrators have permissions to modify other administrator's permissions. However, you should look at see if your ID is in there, because if it's not this could be the reason you can't see that option.

Nadec, can you take a screenshot of the permissions screen you are looking at to edit his permissions and post it here?

:facepalm:

We really need a facepalm smiley here on vB.org, ya know?

PHP Code:
$config['SpecialUsers']['canviewadminlog'] = '';
$config['SpecialUsers']['canpruneadminlog'] = '';
$config['SpecialUsers']['canrunqueries'] = '';
$config['SpecialUsers']['undeletableusers'] = '';
$config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'] = ''
These are the directives in the Config file that deal with Special Users, including Admins. Obviously, you would not put them in there is you are worried about them even backing up the database. XD

My advice to you is that if you are worried about another Administrator backing up your database and running off with your forum, then you should not be making that person an Administrator in the first place. However, if you are worried about him directly altering your database, don't fret--only users set in the 'canrunqueries' can run queries directly. :3

Right, but he's worried about him making a backup of the forums (and for what it's worth, I agree about not making him an admin if this is a concern). You don't need 'canrunqueries' access for that.

Also, not sure if you were talking to me with the facepalm comment after posting the listing of the variables. I'm well aware of them, I was asking for a screenshot of the permission screen HE thinks is correct where he's not seeing the maintenance tools option.

Sorry, to clarify, the facepalming was aimed at the thought of making someone an Admin that you don't trust to not run off with your forum. XP
